IT’S A MOVE THAT BUILDERS AND REAL ESTATE INTERESTS HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR, AS THEY SAY THE NEW HEIGHT RESTRICTIONS WOULD ENTICE BUSINESSES TO RELOCATE HERE. MOST RESIDENTS ARE NOT IN FAVOR OF THE MOVE, SAYING THEY DON’T WANT BUILDINGS TO MARR THE SKYLINE, PLUS THEY SAY MORE PEOPLE WILL MAKE FOR LONGER HURRICANE EVACUATION TIMES. BUT ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT ADVOCATES SAY THE CHANGES ARE NEEDED TO JUMP START THE COUNTY’S ECONOMY, WHICH HAS SUFFERED GREATLY SINCE THE HOUSING SLUMP BEGAN ABOUT 18 MONTHS AGO.
